WWE Champion Kofi Kingston Has Another MSG Moment on Smackdown Live

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston Has Another MSG Moment on Smackdown Live

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston returned to The World’s Most Famous Arena in New York City, and made an immediate impact on Smackdown Live last Tuesday night.

The fearless champion and New Day member rocked the house at MSG when he delivered a devastating leg drop on Randy Orton, which saw his vehement foe go crashing through a table with not an ounce of remorse. The always rabid and passionate New York audience couldn’t get enough of Kingston’s daredevil theatrics, and wanted to see more. The moment was reminiscent of a 2009 encounter that the two had on Monday Night Raw. Almost 10 years ago, Kingston flew through the sky and got the better of WWE’s Apex Predator. Kingston getting the upper hand on Orton solidified himself as a top superstar with an unlimited amount of potential, and is still a talking point in his career all of these years later.

After Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan to become the WWE champion at WrestleMania in Metlife Stadium on April 7, he became a marked man on Smackdown. Orton’s been eyeing the prized championship belt, making it known that he wants it back around his waist. The Legend Killer and 13-time world champion tried to embarrass Kingston in the city that never sleeps by chanting “stupid” multiple times, but he came up short, and ate a table after rudely interrupting Kofi’s sentimental interview.

Kingston and Orton will finally have the opportunity to settle their ongoing rivalry at WWE’s upcoming pay-per-view, Clash of Champions. The breathtaking event can be streamed live on the award-winning WWE Network starting at 7 PM EST on Sunday, September 15. Will lighting strike one more time for Kingston, or will Orton add another championship reign to his long list of accomplishments?

Smackdown Live also saw underdog Chad Gable shockingly topple the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” Shane McMahon in the main event of the program to advance in the finals of the prestigious King of the Ring tournament. Kevin Owens was the special guest referee and raised Gable’s hand after the conclusion of the 2 out of 3 falls match. McMahon didn’t like the result and fired Owens from his show. Smackdown also saw Bayley retain her women’s championship after an impressive victory over Ember Moon, and The Miz defeating Andrade in an intense showcase. The legendary Undertaker also returned to the program to enormous fanfare, and delivered an annihilating chokeslam on Sami Zayn.

New Yorkers are already counting down the days for WWE to return to MSG. The next show at The Garden will be part of the company’s annual holiday tour on December 26.
