Kevin Smith is bringing back your childhood with new He-Man animated series on Netflix
Fans who are looking to get their fix of 80s nostalgia are in luck. Kevin Smith is set to bring back the popular He-Man franchise on Netflix.
In an announcement at the Power-Con convention in California on August 18, Smith said he serve as the show's showrunner and executive producer. EW confirmed that the show will be titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” stated Smith.
The Clerks director assures that fans of He-Man are in for a delightful treat. In what may be the last ever battle between rivals He-Man and Skeletor, Smith said, "Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
He-Man first gained popularity as an animated series from 1983-85. Protagonist Prince Adam would use the Sword of Power to transform into He-Man. Children all across America would be in awe of the most powerful man in the universe.
This isn't the first announcement of He-Man returning to the screen. A He-Man film is set to drop in 2020, with Noah Centineo slated to portray the iconic, muscular character. The movie will be directed by the Nee brothers.
Iconic Friends monkey Marcel is coming back to the television screen
This is no monkey business. The infamous Friends monkey Marcel is set to return television to the delight of animal (and Friends) lovers worldwide.
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the story on August 12. FX CEO John Landgraf was caught by surprise when he was examining dailies on the network's adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's graphic novel Y: The Last Man.
"I recognize Jennifer Aniston, I recognize Courtney Cox, and I recognize that monkey!" Landgraf recalled.
Marcel gained a cult following as the trusty sidekick to David Schwimmer’s Ross Gellar on Friends. It turns out Marcel is a great actor, as the monkey is actually a female named Katie. In the upcoming Y series, Katie is set to play the opposite sex one more time.
Y's plot will focus on Keoghan’s Yorick Brown, the last surviving man on Earth. Brown is a man on a mission who wants to find out why the male population has been completely annihilated. His only friend, Ampersand (Katie), is the only other male mammal to survive the strange apocalypse.
Katie already filmed her part in the pilot episode. With the show's recent changes, it remains to be seen if Katie will keep her role as the series continues. Showrunners Aida Croal and Michael Green were recently replaced by Eliza Clark.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson marries longtime sweetheart
Millions of fans around the world smell what Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is cooking, and so does his new wife, Lauren Hashian.
In a surprise Instagram post made on August 19, the former WWE champion and Hollywood star announced his marriage to the public.
"We do," Johnson happily declared to the world. Hashian was seen wearing a lengthly gown, while carrying a bouquet of white flowers. "The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment" also sported white, as his shirt and pants complimented each other. “The People’s Champ” always knows how to put an outfit together, much like fellow WWE Superstar and author, Titus O’Neil.
Several of Johnson's longtime friends chimed in with their sentiments on Johnson's shocking Instagram post in the comments section.
"Congrats man," wrote Kevin Hart. The two co-stared in the 2017 blockbuster film, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
E! News reports that the newly married couple has a lot to celebrate. In April 2018, the pair cheerfully welcomed their baby girl Tiana. Previously, they also welcomed their daughter Jasmine in 2015.
