Bebe Rexha Says She Isn't Going to be Put Into a Box Anytime Soon on Instagram
Ahead of her 30th birthday later this month, 29-year-old Bebe Rexha is calling out an out-of-touch music industry executive in a detailed Instagram post. The executive allegedly thinks that at only 29, Rexha doesn’t have the sex appeal to appease her fanbase.
The “Last Hurrah” singer isn’t one to hold her tongue. On her Instagram, Rexha made it clear that she isn’t going to put up with mean-spirited commentary from men who think that they know her better than she knows herself. Much like how Amy Sheppard recently shared the message of body positivty on her personal account, Rexha passionately fired back at the executive who thought she was “too old” by posting a black and white mirror selfie.
“I’m 29. I’m fed up with being put in a box. I’m tired of women getting labeled as ‘hags’ when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age,” the singer told her 8.9 Million Instagram followers. “Anyways, I’m turning 30 on August 30 and you know what, I’m not running away from it.”
Rexha’s road to stardom didn’t come overnight. The 29-year-old scratched and clawed her way to the top. She got her first taste of success writing hit songs for Selena Gomez, Eminem, and Rihanna in 2013 before releasing her debut single “I Can’t Stop Drinking About You” the following year. Since then, the glowing singer and songwriter achieved global recognition from her hits “The Way I Are (Dance with Somebody)” and “Say My Name,” featuring electronic dance music icon David Guetta and J Balvin.
As Rexha fiercely combats body-shamers on the Internet, she’s also currently on tour in support of her 2018 album, Expectations. She will return to New York City for two stops at Madison Square Garden on August 29 and 30 with the Jonas Brothers.
