New Yorkers Are Ready For WWE's WrestleMania Week

New Yorkers Are Ready For WWE's WrestleMania Week

WrestleMania is World Wrestling Entertainment’s showcase of the immortals, and New Yorkers are ecstatic for WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of the year to return to Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, April 7.

Wrestling fans around the world are also looking forward to all of the festivities that surround WrestleMania 35, including WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony, Axxess, and NXT TakeOver. WrestleMania 29 also took place at Metlife Stadium back on April 7, 2013. That version of the sold-out spectacle was headlined by John Cena challenging The Rock for the historic WWE Championship.

The landscape of WWE has changed drastically during the 6-year hiatus of WrestleMania being in the New York/New Jersey area. Roman Reigns became the face of the company, winning multiple world titles and headlining several WrestleManias along the way. Reigns made his presence known, picking up impressive victories against legendary performers including Triple H and The Undertaker. With triumph, however, came sudden heartbreak. Reigns spoke to the WWE Universe on the October 22, 2018 edition of Raw, saying that his leukemia had returned after 11 years of fighting it and being in remission. The news sent shockwaves through the locker room. The road to WrestleMania was underway, and one of Vince McMahon’s top stars was out of commission—and in the fight of his life.

It was unclear when Reigns would return to the squared circle. Miraculously, Reigns appeared on WWE’s flagship program Raw last night, and told fans in attendance that his leukemia was once again in remission. The former universal champion confirmed the shocking announcement on ABC’s GMA earlier today, declaring that that he’s ready to make his comeback to the ring. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see where Reigns fits into the picture for WrestleMania 35. His on-screen Shield partner, Seth Rollins, is scheduled to face the current universal champion, Brock Lesnar.

Besides WrestleMania 35, WWE is pulling out all of the stops to put a spotlight on their next generation of talent. WWE’s NXT brand is returning on Friday, April 5 at Barclays Center for its annual TakeOver event in Brooklyn. NXT is where the superstars of tomorrow get noticed. Names like Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, and Roderick Strong are tearing down the house and getting noticed.

For WWE fans who want to pay tribute to the legends of the past, they can do so on April 6, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The company celebrates the stars that helped mold WWE into the pop culture phenomenon that it is today. Previous inductees include “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Mick Foley, and Andre The Giant. D-Generation X is currently announced for this year’s class. The Attitude Era’s most popular stable consisted of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, X-Pac, and Chyna. The induction ceremony speech is expected to be one for the ages.

WWE superstars are also known to get up-and-personal with their fans during the company’s most wonderful time of year. Axxess is a multi-day event where fans of the WWE can get autographs and pictures with their favorite performers. Becky Lynch, AJ Styles, Shane McMahon, Ronda Rousey, and Daniel Bryan are just some of the names that will have swarms of fans cheering them on. Axxess runs from April 4 to April 8. Fans in the area can also catch Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live at Barclays Center on April 8 and 9.

Fans who are interested in purchasing tickets for WWE’s WrestleMania 35 can do so HERE. You can also buy tickets to WWE’s Hall of Fame 2019, WWE Axxess sessions, and NXT’s TakeOver: Brooklyn. WrestleMania 35 is only 39 days away, so act fast.
